The three papers listed below that I have briefly described are papers that I have written for different courses in the Masters of Education in Educational Leadership program. Please click on the icon on the left to access the papers.
Course Title: Leadership Skills
Paper Title: Leadership Philosophy and Action Plan
This paper changed my perception as a leader. This paper focuses on different leadership styles and the action plan for becoming a leader in higher education. This course helps improve styles or philosophies of leadership and give us guidelines on how to do so. The assignment highlighted my skills in leadership and it reinforced the main leadership styles I need to implement in order to be successful in higher education. Learning about myself, from myself, and the life lessons I have experienced is going to be one of the factors to becoming a great leader, however the time and place to adjust leadership styles is a personal choice.
Course Title: The Community College
Paper Title: Student Retention
This paper was one of my favorite papers to write because as an employee at a community college, I had the chance to express my views and concerns about the challenges community colleges are now starting to face. This course outlines philosophy, purpose, objectives, curricula, students, and organizational patterns of the community college. This paper focuses on the importance of student retention in community colleges. The assignment highlighted how student retention ease the financial burden at institutions across the U.S. due to the decrease of state funding. I would like to see institutions find new and inventive ways to retain students for the duration of their degree program but as issues arise strategies and ideas must be in place to reach students on a personal and academic level.
Course Title: Professional Development Seminar
Paper Title: Assessment for Reaccreditation
This paper was one of my least favorites because it challenged me to research information about accreditation. This course assist in preparing students for entry into a professional arena. This paper focuses on a plan to achieve accreditation by educational leaders that involves embedding elements of, and pursuit towards innovation, change, and quality education. The assignment highlighted the accreditation process for higher education and the challenges institutions face. Educational leaders must demonstrate the ability to handle today's problems while planning for the future reaccreditation. In addition, educational leaders must have a process in place that addresses issues that maintain the focus on future viability that is critical to the longevity of the institution.
